After a very bad experience in AA, It’s such a relief, that I don’t have to call myself an alcoholic to have a better life! There’s a dirty little secret in AA that’s well known to the old timers regarding “predators” in the rooms… men who’s sole purpose of “showing up” is to prey on vulnerable women in the early stages of “sobriety”. The old timers know who these men are…. they’ve witnessed the predatory behavior before, albeit many times, but admit it’s not their job to warn anyone… the anonymity clause gets them off the hook! 15 years ago I was a victim of this egregious behavior. That the program required me to REPEATEDLY call myself an alcoholic (one of them) to “recover” from my “disease” has been an enormous road block! Thank you for giving me permission to expunge those words (that for me, have so many negative connotations) from my vocabulary! 💜

What are you going to do about your trigger… this came over me this morning as I was walking the beast (very, very large dog)… he saw another dog approaching and was focused/locked in on the other dog and not me. He needed a quick little yank of the leash to snap his attention back to me. I am not going to put on a collar and have the hubs give a quick yank when I have a trigger/craving but its the same concept… get a quick snap out of the temporary distraction/mindset

Thanks for the video. The image or metaphor of one’s former life as a blob in a muslin bag (a bit like squeezing Italian soft cheese??) and then putting it in a large lake under one’s row boat was/is an interesting one. It makes me ponder on people who live on boats putting their waste into the sea and not worrying about it because the sea is large; (but isn’t it gross? what if it stays around the boat etc?), or, equally strange image, people dispersing someone’s ashes into the ocean. Perhaps saying goodbye to one’s former (drinking) life is as big as these images…
